Lilith’s Nightmare

2009

Lilith is a mythological Jewish figure. Attributed to stealing the souls of newborn babies because she never had children of her own, Lilith is both demon and perhaps the first feminist. This piece begs several questions. Is it a tragedy to not have children of one’s own? Is it a curse that women are forever consigned to giving birth in pain? Or perhaps the biggest tragedy is that today in the holiest city (Jerusalem) in the most religious neighborhood ( Mea Shearim) there is not a single image of a women to be found.
